7 Things No One Tells You About Summer Camps (and Why Your Kid Will Love Them)

When you think of summer camp, you might picture cabins, backpacks, and roasted marshmallows. And yes, those are part of it—but there’s a whole world of magic that doesn’t make it onto the packing list. After years of welcoming campers from around the globe, we’ve noticed some beautiful little truths that no one tells you about camp… until you live it.

Here are 7 of our favorites:

1. Sleeping away from home feels scary… but only the first night.
The idea of sleeping in a new bed, away from your grown-ups, is a big deal. But something magical happens when kids realize they’re surrounded by new friends, laughter, and a team that’s cheering them on. By the second night? Lights out turns into giggles and whispered stories.

2. You make lifelong friends in just 48 hours.
Something about camp breaks time. You arrive as strangers, and within a day or two, you’re laughing like you’ve known each other forever. Shared adventures, inside jokes, and late-night talks create bonds that last far beyond the summer.

3. Mealtime is collaborative, nourishing—and absolutely delicious.
Our menus are built with campers in mind: we take their preferences, ideas, and feedback seriously. Whether it’s a beloved family recipe or a new dish discovered in town, we aim to make every meal feel like home—with a dash of adventure. And yes, fresh local organic ingredients and traditional Spanish flavors definitely help.

4. You’ll get messy. Really messy.
We’re talking paint in your hair, mud on your socks, and clay on your elbows. But every splash and smear comes with joy, creativity, and freedom that’s hard to find in everyday life.

5. You learn Spanish without even realizing it.
Our camp is rooted in immersion. That means your child isn’t memorizing vocabulary—they’re living the language. Through games, jokes, songs, and cooking, Spanish becomes something real and meaningful.

6. You forget about your phone… and don’t even miss it.
No screens, no scrolling—just real connection. Kids rediscover how fun it is to talk face-to-face, play cards, explore the woods, and just be. (Our favorite!!)

7. Coming home is harder than you think.
Because you don’t want to leave. Camp becomes a second home, and the people there become a second family. It’s not just a break from routine—it’s a new rhythm, one that many kids (and parents!) want to return to again and again.
